AAWORD - The Association of African Women for Research and Development is looking for an Executive Secretary, As you know the headquarters is in Dakar. AAWORD is looking for someone with a post graduate degree in the social sciences and ten years experience in administration. The person should also be good in formulating, conducting and evaluating research work and have experience in fundraising,etc. etc. AAWORD would like someone who is bilingual in English and French. CODESRIA -- Executive Secretary

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), based in Dakar, Senegal invites applications from African Social Science Scholars for the position of its Executive Secretary. This post constitutes one of the top leadership of the CODESRIA Secretariat, which works as a team. As such, the incumbent will be capable of:

(i) coordinating the writing of programme proposals, funding requests and research reports:
(ii) providing intellectual leadership to research networks activities;
(iii) promoting the establishment of professional associations, working groups and research networks;
(iv) organising and facilitating scientific round tables, meetings and conferences in Africa;
(v) be acquainted with editing, publishing and dissemination of research information.

Qualifications Applicants are required to:

a. Have a strong academic background and a long experience in research formulation, guidance, coordination and research reporting;
b. Have a knowledge of CODESRIA and/or similar research organisations and the ability to motivate and develop researchers and staff;
c. Possess management and administrative experience in similar research organisations with experience and credibility in fund-raising;
d. Be well known in the African and international scientific community for their scholarship;
e. A working knowledge (oral and written) of both French and English is necessary.

Conditions of Service Salary level will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate and comparable with that provided for similar positions in other international organisations. The selected candidate will be entitled to a tax-exempt salary, post adjustment, contribution to children's education, settlement allowance, a contributory pension fund and health insurance. The contract lasts four years and is renewable once.

Procedure for submission of applications: The following are to be supplied by the applicants:

1. An application letter;
2. A detailed curriculum vitae including training and professional experience;
3. Reference letters from three people who know the applicant's work (including at least two resident in countries other than those of the applicants);
4. One copy of three or four of applicant's own publications.

Reference letters should be sealed and sent directly to CODESRIA. Independent references may be sought out by CODESRIA as needed. All correspondence, sealed and labelled APPLICATION, should be addressed to:

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

International Conference on Gender and Equity Issues: Humanistic
Considerations for the 21st Century

Jointly organised by: Srinakhariwirot University, Bangkok and Salisbury State University Maryland

Venue: The Radission Hotel Bangkok January , 4 - 6 2001.

Given the importance of equity issues in our ever increasing global society, we invite papers covering a wide range of topics including: American Studies, Feminist Studies, Humanistic Studies, Law, History, Sociology, Demography, Healthcare Psychology, Art, Theatre, Film, Gender, and Ethnicity. While the focus is primarily on gender and equity issues, papers from other disciplines such as Applied Linguisitics, Comparative Literature, Cultural Studies and Higher Education are also encouraged, particularly if they are interdisciplinary in nature.

Panel proposals are also encouraged: please list all speakers (and an outline of how the panel will be organized), their academic affiliations, and the titles of the papers.

Abstracts (approximately 200 words) of all papers, including panel discussions, should be submitted to the following addresses by September 30, 2000:

The five-star Radisson Hotel in Bangkok will be the conference hotel. Rates of singles and doubles will be available for approximately $55.00 per day inclusive of international breakfast, and should conference participants wish to come early or stay after the conference, that same rate will apply.
